If you are experiencing issues with the formatting of the KFS screens, it is necessary to clear your browser cache/files and history. You can do this through the options/preferences in your browser. 9/11/15 – KFS has been upgraded to version 5.3. If you encounter any errors or need assistance please contact the UITS Help Center at x4357 and they will forward a Service Ticket to Finance Systems

The Kuali Team is excited to share with you our plans to upgrade the Kuali Financial System (KFS) to version 5.3 beginning at 3pm on Friday, September 11^th, 2015.  We will be meeting with our project Leadership Team this week and expect to gain final approval to “Go Live”.  We anticipate KFS and KFDM will be ready for use at the opening of business on Monday, September 14^th, 2015.  Any changes to the schedule will be communicated through KFS-L@LISTSERV.UCONN.EDU.

As we discussed during our July Informational Session, there are many benefits to upgrading KFS including:

• Numerous bug fixes and enhancements
• The ability to continue to leverage the support of the Kuali Foundation and Community by keeping us on a supported version
• Positioning for the future by leveraging the latest technologies such as Kuali RICE 2.0 and new modules which are available
• Elimination of customizations that are now part of the delivered system
• Simplification of our infrastructure by reducing the number of servers we need to maintain.

To assist with the transition, a new SharePoint site has been created to provide documentation, such as the What’s New in KFS 5.3 Users Guide, a link to the video of the Informational Session held in July, and discussion groups to get help for issues and share ideas. Please review the information prior to September 14^th to become familiar with any changes that may impact your area.

To All KFS and KFDM Users:

The Final Close for Fiscal Year 2015 will take place tonight, Wednesday, August 26, 2015. By Thursday morning, August 27th, final balances from 2015 will be carried over into Fiscal Year 2016 as beginning balances. These amounts will no longer be seen as pending entries in Fiscal Year 2016; they will be final and posted amounts.

For contract and grant accounts, ending balances for 2015 will be seen in the “Contracts Grants Beginning Balance Amount” field on the General Ledger Balance Lookup for 2016.

For all other account types, ending balances for 2015 will be seen in the “Beginning Balance Line Amount” field on the General Ledger Balance Lookup for 2016.

The Kuali Financial Data Mart (KFDM) will also be updated to include the beginning balances for Fiscal Year 2016.

A new KFS Expense Object Code Description Guide is now available. Features of the new guide include:

• Addition of object codes created since 2012
• Removal of all “FRS” references
• An update to object codes for equipment under $5,000
• Revised object code descriptions for certain object codes

Many staff keep a copy of this guide readily available in either print or electronic versions. Please make sure you are using this new 07/01/2015 version.
